This paper provides a great opportunity for young mathematicians to practise answering multi-step word problems.
The paper has been created because many exceptional candidates at 7+ level require additional exposure to this style of question to understand exactly what is being asked of them in each problem.
There is an interplay between mathematical and non-mathematical language that must be worked through to ascertain which operation(s) are required to answer the problem.
A thematic, colour coded mark scheme is provided to help identify strengths and areas of development. The colours can also be used as a scaffold to help the child see which mathematical operations are required to successfully answer each question.
What separates good candidates from great candidates at 7+ level? It's simple - practise, practise, practise!
